About the Ministry
Introduction to the Ministry
The Ministry of Women’s Affairs is a government agency that provides policy advice on issues specific to New Zealand women. It is the smallest core government department in New Zealand with a staff of less than 40 people and an annual budget of approximately $4 million.
The Ministry’s work is guided by the Action Plan for New Zealand Women, a five-year whole-of-government plan designed to improve the lives of New Zealand women. The plan focuses on three broad areas of work.
| Economic sustainability | Improving women’s ability to independently provide for themselves and their families |
| Work-life balance | Helping women achieve a greater balance between paid work and life outside of work |
| Well-being | Improving health and social outcomes for women |
