Status of Women in new zealand

New Zealand's 6th CEDAW report to the United Nations has been released.

Action plan implementation and review

The Action Plan for New Zealand Women is a living document that will be revised and re-targeted as required to meet the changing needs of New Zealand women. The Ministry of Women's Affairs will monitor implementation of the Plan and evaluate progress against key indicators. The indicators form a monitoring framework for the Plan. The basis of the framework is detailed in Appendix 2. A review and update of the Plan will be provided to the government in 2006.

The Ministry of Women's Affairs will actively monitor progress to achieve the objectives of the Action Plan. The Ministry will continue to work directly with government agencies to develop policies that improve outcomes for New Zealand women and promote a sustainable future for New Zealand.

While all government agencies have responsibility for improving outcomes for New Zealand women, the Ministry of Women's Affairs plays a key role in leading gender analysis across government and in driving government policy towards achieving improvements in outcomes for women. The Ministry will continue to work towards increasing the numbers of women in leadership and decision-making roles. The key focus for the Ministry over the next five years will be providing leadership on particular policy initiatives, and coordinating the implementation of the Action Plan for New Zealand Women in liaison with other agencies.
