Our policy programme
The policy work undertaken by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs focuses on improving the lives of New Zealand women. The programme is guided by the Action Plan for New Zealand Women which gives us a clear direction and measurable goals to achieve.
The Action Plan for New Zealand Women is a whole-of-government approach to improve women’s lives in the workplace, home, community and as members of society. It was launched by the Minister of Women’s Affairs on 8 March 2004. Under the Action Plan for New Zealand Women work is prioritised in three areas:
The Ministry provides gender-specific policy advice to the government under these three work streams. The Ministry works alongside other government agencies towards wider government goals to improve outcomes for New Zealand women. The Ministry is interested in work being done in the areas of justice and safety, work-life balance, childcare, unpaid work, access to services, health, social assistance, economic growth, labour market participation and income.
