Status of Women in new zealand
New Zealand's 6th CEDAW report to the United Nations has been released.
Well-being
The Ministry is committed to improving the quality of life for New Zealand women. In working towards achieving this, the Ministry is focused on improving access to services, reducing the incidence and impact of violence on women, improving women’s health and increasing participation of women in leadership and decision-making roles in the health and social sectors.
Domestic Violence
A particular focus of the Ministry’s work is to improve the safety and well-being of New Zealand women in the area of domestic violence.
Part of the Ministry’s focus is to gain a better understanding of the complex factors that influence the level of violence and looking at ways in which the effectiveness of the Domestic Violence Act could be improved.
This includes undertaking qualitative research of women’s experiences of protection orders under the Domestic Violence Act.
The Ministry contributes to cross-agency work in the Violence within Families work stream of government’s social strategy Opportunity for All New Zealanders and also Te Rito: New Zealand Family Violence Prevention Strategy.
