The Social Report

The Social Report, published annually by the Ministry of Social Development, provides information on the social health and well-being of New Zealand society. Indicators are used to measure levels of well-being, to monitor trends over time, and to make comparisons with other countries.

Focusing on Women 2005

Focusing on Women 2005 looks at the demographic, social and economic characteristics of women in New Zealand. This Statistics New Zealand report provides an overview of the changing status of New Zealand women. It compares their present status with that of men, and with women in the past.

 

Time Use Survey

The New Zealand Time Use Survey recorded the amount of time spent on different activities including paid work, voluntary work, household work, caring and leisure. The survey was conducted in 1998/99.

 

Globalisation, gendered migration and labour markets

This research report, published in 2006, explores why there are increasingly more women than men in New Zealand and what impact this may be having on the labour market.

Another useful place to look for information about women on the Statistics New Zealand site is the women page in the communities section. It provides links to relevant resources, including some of those listed above.

 

Other useful sites are New Zealand's official statistics portal, Statisphere which enables users to quickly find all available official statistics, and the Sustainable Development site, which provides access to New Zealand population statistics published by a wide range of government departments and agencies.
